Why were cultists so. Freaking. Annoying?!

[break][break]Seriously, if these weirdos had actually put water somewhere useful like a desert, then Ruby wouldn't even care. But no, they had to pick Sootopolis City, which already had a whole crater of water, to do their weird water-summoning rituals. Apparently, they thought they were acting on "the will of Kyogre" by trying to flood the region. Yeah, screw that. Ruby wasn't a "good guy" by any means, but it didn't take a rocket scientist to realize that they needed to be stopped.

[break][break]Plus, they were on Rocket territory. That gave her even more of a reason to kick their teeth in!

[break][break]She tapped her heel impatiently against the rocky shore, resisting the urge to just run out there and start kicking their asses. Apparently, there was a higher-up who'd be joining her in the assault, but she wished they'd hurry up already. One, she wanted to get to work already. And two, she wanted to prove herself in front of one of the big wigs.

Bryan was annoyed. The events that had occured with Necrozma left him really angry and bitter over how they turned out, the only silver lining being that was back from the dead. [break][break]

Xerneas was still recovering as well so he decided to not really use his powers and to allow the deity to rest. These people weren't worthy of seeing such abilities. [break][break]

He approached the young lady, wearing just a hoodie that seemed one size too small and some gym shorts. "?" he asked casually as he lowered his hoodie and unnatural mismatched eyes met her gaze. "Let's go." he said giving her a small gesture to follow him, he walked towards the cultist who were using Pokémon with drizzle and rain dance to cause the weather to change rapidly. [break][break]

Before they approached them he'd ask her a simple question, trying to gauge what kind of trainer she was.. "What pokemon do you have with you?"

Holy shit, that was a Rocket Beast. Even a newbie like Ruby knew who Bryan Delarosa was, and he was pretty easy to recognize with his mismatched eyes. She knew she'd be dealing with a higher-up, but she hadn't realized just what kind of higher-up. She managed to keep her eyes from popping open in surprise for more than a fraction of a second.

[break][break]"That's me," she said, managing to keep her voice level. She was determined to keep her cool in front of him. The last thing she needed was to make a fool of herself in front of a Beast.

[break][break]Before they reached the cultist themselves, Bryan stopped them to ask what Pokémon Ruby had on her. "I've got Araquanid, Houndour, Skorupi, Scyther, and Garchomp. The Garchomp's got Sandstorm, so that should slow them down." She had to admit that it wasn't the best team for dealing with Water-types, but being able to cancel out their rain with sand would be useful, at least. "What about you?" She was curious to see what kind of team a real Rocket Beast would have on him.

On the surface it didn't really seem like he was listening all to much but he was. He could tell she was nervous to be around him, guess that's what the title does to people. "That'll work. Use sandstorm on my cue." he told her as he went on to just smirk when she asked what Pokémon he had. [break][break]

"You'll be in for a treat. I've been wanting to cut loose." he answers as he had brought his special Pokémon with him. He had asked her specifically what pokemon she was using to choose a type. He nodded for her to follow him as Bryan approached the cultist.[break][break]

He put on his wolf mask as they began to approach the cultists and shouted at them "AYE. Get the FUCK out of here." he shouted at them
as they turned their heads towards Bryan and tilted them in response to his presence. 'how dare you! We are worshipping the almighty kyogre, giving him offerings so that he returns to us! Praise be Kyogre! Bless this fool and the error of his ways!" they shout back. [break][break]

"So you wont leave? Ok." He tossed out a pokeball with his silvally coming out and roaring at his opponents, tossing a silver colored disk into it's helmet as it's body change color and silvally became steel type. "Ruby, now." he said extending his hand and snapping his fingers as a ball of extremely bright light flew out from bryan's hand and exploded, blinding the cultists. [break][break]

"Multi-attack." he ordered as Silvally lunged forward and began to attack the shrine they had set up and the cultists sent out some aquatic pokemon.

Bryan's seeming disinterest in her Pokémon didn't help with Ruby's nerves at first, but he apparently was listening, and Ruby felt a little swell of pride when he told her to use Sandstorm. Except then she remembered that she'd be using Delphi for that, and while the Garchomp was a powerhouse, she tended to do what she wanted in battle instead of listen to Ruby. Ruby really, really hoped that the Dragon-type would listen to her for once.

[break][break]Bryan didn't directly answer Ruby's question, only telling her that he wanted to "cut loose." That put a smirk on her face. Seeing a Rocket Beast cut loose was bound to be good. Her mask wasn't anything fancy compared to Bryan's—it was a cloth mask with a grinning-teeth pattern that covered the lower half of her face—but she still tied it on.

[break][break]To Ruby's complete lack of surprise, the cultists got even more annoying when told to fuck off. Ruby rolled her eyes with an annoyed sigh. Luckily, Bryan was quick on the draw, sending out a strange chimeric Pokémon that Ruby had never seen before. And then he put a disk in its head? But before Ruby could dwell too much on this strange creature, she got her signal.

[break][break]Come on, Del, don't fuck this up for me...!

[break][break]"Delphi, use Sandstorm!" she shouted as she tossed the Garchomp's Poké Ball into the fray. At about the same time, Ruby had to do a double-take to make sure she was really seeing Bryan summoning a ball of light to blind the cultists. Was that...?

[break][break]Delphi let out a roar and charged at the Kingdra that one of the cultists had sent out. Wait... where was the sand?

[break][break]"Delphi!" Ruby yelled even louder. "Sandstorm!"

[break][break]But the Garchomp didn't listen, instead surrounding herself in a blue draconic aura and hitting the Kingdra with a Dragon Rush, knocking it out instantly.

[break][break]A cultist's voice rose up above the chaos: "Swampert, Ice Punch!"

[break][break]Delphi whirled around to confront the Swampert that stomped over to her. She tried to catch her opponent's fists on her arm blades, but the frozen punch was too much for her to withstand, and she staggered backwards.

[break][break]"Oh, for fuck's sake..." Ruby grumbled.

[break][break]"Protect the altar!" a cultist shouted. "Someone stop that Pokémon!"

[break][break]"Does anyone know what type it is?" someone else called out.

[break][break]"Who cares?!" a third voice cut in. "Just hit it with something!"

He blinked, the sand storm wasn't appearing. He turned back towards the girl who was ordering her dragon type yet it seemed disinterested in obeying her. Why? [break][break]

Shit, this was gonna throw a wrench into his plan. At least for now the garchomp was causing chaos for the cultists. The rain continued to pour as his clothes slowly got soaked by them. It was gonna be hard to move around like this so he took matters into his own hands, releasing another pokeball. "Fine! Zarude use sunny day!" he ordered as the monkey pokemon pounded the ground rapidly in excitement as it chanted and the clouds began to part. [break][break]

He turned back towards ruby "Get a grip on that garchomp before I do!" he says warning the girl. He wasn't going to actually do anything but maybe she needed to be kicked into high gear? Regardless he would lend her his support. "Restrain that swampert, help garchomp!" he ordered as zarude's vines on his arms unfurled and dashed towards the swampert, grabbing the pokemon by the arms to try and hold those deadly ice punches back.

Ruby blew out a frustrated hiss through clenched teeth. Of all the times for Delphi to not listen, it had to be now. Bryan sent out another powerful-looking Pokémon that she had never seen before, which would have been a lot more impressive if it weren't fighting her battles for her. Right now, all she could feel was frustration. Frustration and maybe just a hint of fear. As much as she wanted to thrash Delphi for disobeying, having a Rocket Beast do the same probably wouldn't end well. And Ruby didn't want to be on the other end of that wrath, either.

[break][break]"You see what happens when you don't listen?!" she yelled at the Garchomp, who was still recovering from the punch. "You get your ass kicked, and you get upstaged! Now use Sandstorm!"

[break][break]Delphi glared at the simian Pokémon holding her opponent back and growled. Ruby tensed up, already reaching for Delphi's Poké Ball. Luckily, Delphi seemed to realize that attacking her own ally would be an awful idea, and after a reluctant sigh, she stood up straight and roared at the heavens.

[break][break]Meanwhile, the cultists scrambled to deal with the sunny weather, which was weakening their own attacks on Silvally. "Someone use Rain Dance already!" one of them called.

[break][break]The dark clouds crept back over the battlefield, engulfing it again in shadow. But before even a single drop of rain could fall, the clouds were blown away again by a gust of sandy wind.

[break][break]"Oh, for Kyogre's sake!" the cultist shouted.

[break][break]Ruby sighed in relief. That hadn't been a good start, but at least things were on the right track now.

[break][break]In the midst of all this chaos, the Swampert continued to struggle against the vines restraining its arms. It summoned ice around its fist again and pulled as hard as it could.

He grinned as it seemed all that Garchomp needed was someone scarier than it to keep it in line. However, this small victory of getting garchomp to comply was going to be short lived as the Swampert began to make it's move again. The icy hands slowly grew over the pokemon's body, freezing Zarude's vines and snapping them. The pokemon retracted the leaves as it screamed, traces of blood littering the ground as Bryan grew upset with the swampert. [break][break]

He placed a hand on zarude's back. Using his avatar ability to restore the pokemon's health entirely. "You're gonna pay for that." he warns the swampert as Bryan beckons it over to him. The swampert roars before charging at Bryan and he meets it head on, punching the ice punch as the two began to trade blows with one another. The cultist watching in horror as Bryan was going toe to toe with the beast. They realized who he was. "FUCK! THAT'S THE ROCKET BEAST WOLF." one of the cultists clamored. [break][break]

"He serves Xerneas doesn't he?! That's the same guy responsible for setting littleroot on fire!" they continued to shout as Bryan slowly yet surely began to slowly wittle down the swampert's stamina but the fighting was taking it's toll on his body. Lines of blood started to cover his body. Zarude side swiped the Swampert by using acrobatics on it and slamming the Pokémon on it's back. [break][break]

"Get garchomp to finish it off!" he orders as he had an idea how to keep garchomp entertained and listening.

For several more moments than she would have liked, Ruby could only watch in awe as Bryan worked. With a single touch from the Rocket Beast, Zarude looked as good as new, and now that same Rocket Beast was going toe-to-toe with a Swampert. The cultists were freaking out. Ruby couldn't blame them.

[break][break]So that light had been Xerneas's power. That explained how he was able to heal his Pokémon, too. Ruby had heard the stories, but seeing up close like this was something else entirely. She was suddenly very aware of her heart beating in her chest. It was amazing to watch... but also a bit terrifying. She was lucky he was on her side.

[break][break]His command brought her back down to Earth again. "Right." She cleared her throat. "You heard him, Delphi! Finish it!"

[break][break]The Garchomp grinned at the command and seemed to disappear into the raging sandstorm. The Swampert struggled to sit up, eyes darting around for its opponent. A shadow coalesced in the sand, and yellow eyes flashed before Delphi leaped out, one arm raised. Before the Swampert could even try to dodge, Delphi chopped down, driving her arm blade into the Swampert's stomach. A pained cry echoed through the air as blood spurted from the wound. Delphi kept the blade lodged in until the Swampert's struggles died down and it lay still on the ground.

[break][break]A red beam enveloped the wounded Swampert, and it was recalled back into its Poké Ball. Delphi followed the light with her eyes and hissed at its source.

[break][break]"Shit, shit, shit, what do we do?!" a cultist shouted.

[break][break]"Do not panic, my children," a deep, authoritative voice, one much calmer than the rest, said. "We have the power of the Almighty Kyogre on our side. Let that power flow through you and your Pokémon! We shall prevail!"

[break][break]The flashes of several Poké Balls releasing their Pokémon at once shone through the whirling sands. And once again, dark clouds began to roll in as Drizzle was activated.

[break][break]"We're really doing this shit again?" Ruby sighed. "Delphi."

[break][break]This time, Delphi didn't need to be told even once. With a roar, she crossed and uncrossed her arm blades, summoning another Sandstorm. This was getting annoying fast, but at least now Delphi seemed to understand the importance of keeping this storm going.

"Xerneas!" he shouts, calling for his deity to assist him as a tree sprouted from underneath the ground suddenly. [break][break]

"BLACK BRIAR!" he calls out as z-energy violently swirled around bryan and the Xerneas emerging from the tree as they unleashed their joint z-move. The tree began to create a wild thicket of violent thorns whipped out at the cultists and then trapped them in a dome, slowly whittling away at their health. [break][break]

"That should hold them for a bit." He tells ruby. "We're gonna call for back up. Not even I can handle this many people." he says pulling out his phone and getting into contact with and to send in some grunts to handle these people and let the admins decide their fate.[break][break]

"Does your garchomp typically do that?" he asks casually as Xerneas stares at the thicket with the cultists groaning inside. "They should be fine...right?" he asks Xerneas, not really caring but it would be a useful detail to know.[break][break]

'Yes young wolf. They should be ok, I don't intend to claim a life unless it is found necessary.' [break][break]

He looks over at ruby. "Oh, yeah you werent here for the tree raid right? Ruby, xerneas. Xerneas, this is Ruby Garcia, she's a member of rocket as well." as Xerneas dips his head ever so slightly.

Ruby wanted to oppose Bryan's command, say that she could handle these bastards, but the words died on her lips when Bryan called out the name Xerneas. The Legendary Pokémon's power caused a tree to sprout from nowhere and entangle the cultists in a mass of thorny vines. Okay, yeah, that was pretty effective.

[break][break]"Holy shit," she said. Too many emotions were behind those words: awe, reverence, fear... and a tingle of jealousy. What Ruby wouldn't give to have power like that. Not just for the raw power on display here, either. No, no, if Xerneas was the Life Pokémon, did that mean...?

[break][break]Bryan's question barely came through the sludge of emotions sloshing around in her head. She let out an annoyed sigh. "Sometimes," she said before recalling said Garchomp back into her Poké Ball. Most of the time. "She's strong. Just hates strategy, apparently."

[break][break]And then Bryan introduced her to Xerneas like he was introducing her to a casual acquaintance and not, you know, fucking Xerneas. "Uh... Hey." She gave a pathetic little wave. "I don't need to bow or anything, do I?" So much for looking cool in front of the Rocket Beast.

[break][break]Ah, who was she kidding? It was a lost cause when the guy could just pull the Legendary Life Pokémon out of his ass.

[break][break]She sighed again, crossed her arms, and looked to the thicket of thorns holding the cultists. "At least that'll shut them up for a while."

"Yeah, he's very formal." Bryan explains as they quickly go back to talking about Ruby's garchomp.[break][break]

He puts stares at the garchomp trying to figure out a way to assist ruby in her ploy to work more efficiently with her pokemon. "I see. While I employ a similar method, brute force wont work in every situation. At least for most pokemon a level of strategy is needed brute force wont get you everywhere." he says trying to get garchomp to change it's mind but, he doubted it'd work. [break][break]

"If you want. I can show you the errors of her way of thinking one day. Today I'm a bit busier so I cant." he says offering up some of his free time, not like he was running out of it any time soon.

Dammit, she was hoping Xerneas wouldn't say that. She wasn't keen on the idea of prostrating herself before even a Legendary Pokémon, but she was even less keen on the idea of having her blood sucked by thorny vines. "Right. Your Grace." She hoped kneeling was good enough.

[break][break]This is why I'm not religious, she thought before standing.

[break][break]Adding insult to injury, Bryan noted the importance of strategy over just brute force. "Yeah, I know. Try telling that to her, though," she said, looking at Delphi's Poké Ball. Maybe today's screw-up had taught her that actually listening to her trainer was a good idea, but Ruby wasn't holding out hope.

[break][break]"Trust me, I already know the error of her ways. But if you're offering to train us..." Her voice perked up a bit with interest. Maybe something good could come out of today, after all. What better training could she ask for than from a Rocket Beast with a style similar to hers? She was still embarrassed at how Delphi had acted, but if she could get stronger and show she'd taken his lessons to heart... Well, who knows?
